Building a Skincare Routine

Hello babes!

Happy 2018! I know I've been a little M.I.A for awhile, the end of 2017 was crazy, but I am back and better than ever.

For the new year I wanted to talk to you guys about something that has TRULY changed my life.

I’ve been pretty serious about glowing up lately. If you’re unfamiliar with the term, glowing up essentially means living your best life. Nourishing your mind, body, and soul will help you become the glowing goddess that you truly are. I feel the easiest first step you can take in your glow journey is developing a good skincare routine.
No matter what your skin type is, your personal skincare routine should follow some basic guidelines. You’ve gotta keep it clean, clear, nourished, moisturized, and protected. I’ve been blessed with non-acneic skin my entire life, however depending on the weather or my hormones my skin will start to look different and it’s pretty noticeable. I developed this skincare routine to kind of combat that and keep my skin looking normal year round. Below you will find my personal skincare routine, I hope you can incorporate some of these steps into your routine and it makes you feel as good as I do!

The first step in any skincare routine is to cleanse and balance the skin. Your skin has to be clean before you apply any product to it. I’ve been using Garnier’s Micellar Water for about a year now and it has changed everything for me. I use this product as a makeup remover and a cleanser morning and night and it makes me feel so refreshed. I just dab a little bit on a cotton pad and swipe all over my face and neck and one cotton pad is enough to remove makeup and make my skin feel clear and clean. Removing your makeup before bed is CRITICAL. As we start to get older, keeping our faces clean and moisturized at night is key to retaining that youthful bounce, am I right ladies?

Once you are clean its time to balance. Using a toner helps to get your skin at a neutral level so you can start applying products. You don’t have to buy a fancy toner! I recommend Thayer’s Witch Hazel toner or the Pixi Glow Tonic. To apply this you can use a cotton ball and swipe it on your face or apply directly with your fingertips.

Now that we’re clean and toned, it’s time for products. When applying skin care products we’re going to go lightest to heaviest in consistency. I’m a big fan of serums, we’re talking hyaluronic acid, peptides, vitamin C, squalene, all that good stuff! A good place to try out serums and other skincare products is the Ordinary. I’m currently using the Caudalie Vinoperfect serum and a  Biossance squalene and peptide eye gel as my two serums but try things out and see what works for you!

My favorite part— moisturizing. I have two different moisturizers for night and day and this is totally extra of me and not necessary at all. I’m actually subscribed to the Oui Fresh beauty box (best investment ever) and both of these products are from the beauty box and I’m obsessed with them. There are so many different types of moisturizers and these are no exception. For day I use a balm— think coconut oil consistency, and for night I use an oil that is a Godsend in the winter.

For the day moisturizer I put this baby on and bask in how good it smells and how great it makes my skin look. I don’t know what it is about the Leahlani Bless beauty balm, but it instantly makes my skin look so dewy and even. With this moisturizer I’ve rarely been wearing foundation or tinted moisturizer because I can’t get over how good my skin looks and feels with JUST this product. I definitely recommend it. Along with a plethora of cold pressed oils, this moisturizer has argan oil, shea butter, and neroli oil which gives it that delicious smell!

For night I use a Shea Moisture brand night oil. You can definitely use this during the day, but it is a bit too oily for me to wear under makeup. This oil makes my skin feel incredible in the morning, and as I write this I am so sick with a head cold and this night oil is the only thing that makes my poor nose feel better.

On days when I'm not feeling like I need a heavy moisturizer or I just need a refreshing boost, I LOVE Herbivore's rose hibiscus moisturizing mist. It feels so fancy and so soothing on my skin. Plus it's so beautiful and the smell is to die for.
Moisturizing should be a luxurious experience— enjoy it, your skin does!

Lastly, and probably most crucial, is protection for your skin. I never leave the house without a sunscreen on even in winter. UV rays are so damaging and I am so fair skinned that just sitting in the car with the sun beating down on me on my drive home can give me a sunburn. No joke. You can use a tinted moisturizer with sunscreen, a regular moisturizer with sun screen, or a good old fashioned smear of facial sunscreen. Whatever you do, make sure you always wear protection.

In addition to sunscreen I'm a big champion of full body moisture, especially during winter! I love to protect my skin overnight by using this Sleepy Lush body lotion. The scent knocks me out instantly and my hands have not felt dry once since I've starting using it!

That is it for my skincare routine! I hope you’re inspired to start your own skin glow journey. I believe your best skin is right around the corner.

Love you guys,

Xo
